  • A completed first-cycle two-subject academic higher education programme in the same disciplines (180 credits); or
  • a completed first-cycle two-subject academic higher education programme in the same disciplines (240 credits); or
  • any other first-cycle academic higher education programme in another field, if prior to enrolment the candidate has completed course units essential for second-cycle studies; these are determined with reference to how different the field is, and consist of up to 60 credits; or
  • a completed professional higher education programme under the former programme, if prior to enrolment the candidate has completed course units essential for second-cycle studies; these are determined with reference to how different the field is, and consist of 10 to 60 credits.

The qualification holder will be able to:

(subject-specific competences)

  • understand, speak and write standard German at the C1+ level,
  • demonstrate understanding of language as a medium and result of symbolic interaction, recognise its cognitive, emotional, creative, social, referential and metalinguistic functions and use it appropriately, 
  • demonstrate mastery of contemporary theories and theoretical models and evaluate them critically,
  • respond critically to specialist, scholarly and literary texts, 
  • put specialised and general knowledge into words in the appropriate linguistic form; differentiate language use in both oral and written communication while taking into account different social circumstances,
  • recognise the particularities of language, literature and culture of German-speaking regions, and compare them with the particularities of the Slovene language, literature and culture,
  • apply differentiated understanding and dissemination of linguistic, literary and cultural phenomena and processes and continuities/discontinuities in a diachronic and synchronic perspective,
  • develop and help shape intercultural communication while demonstrating knowledge of linguistic, literary, cultural and social differences and similarities between the Slovene-speaking world and the multi-centred German-speaking world.

Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).

In order to progress from the first to the second year of a second-cycle two-subject study programme, students must have completed all course units prescribed by the curriculum and individual syllabuses for the first year, for a total of 60 credits.

Third-cycle doctoral study programmes (SQF level 10)

In order to complete the programme, students must complete all course units prescribed by the study programme and individual subject syllabuses, for a total of 60 credits. Since this is a two-subject study programme, in order to complete the overall programme students must also complete all course units in the other discipline, amounting to 60 credits, for a total of 120 credits.
