The qualification holder will be able to:

- demonstrate knowledge and critical understanding of the role and importance of Latin America and its historical, cultural, economic and social role,
- solve specific problems in the field of Latin American studies through the application of scientific methods and procedures,
- demonstrate understanding of the general structure and content of social science, humanities and economics and the links between them,
- perform ethical and socially responsible designing, planning and evaluation of strategic development possibilities of organisations,
- successfully and effectively plan, organise, manage and supervise the functioning of an organisation or field (process, subsystem),
- carry out individual and collective research, use the knowledge acquired in a critical and self-critical manner, and use ethical judgement when making decisions,

- work in the field of international research,
- demonstrate knowledge of different research methods and use an interdisciplinary approach,
- communicate in multilingual and intercultural contexts and work in an international environment,
- work in the field of international trade and business cooperation,
- undertake critical reflection on the current structure of the international community, with emphasis on Latin America,
- demonstrate understanding of the historical construction and operation of international political processes,
- professionally and personally outgrow national, ethnic and racial intolerance and show a critical attitude to xenophobia,
- demonstrate understanding of international political processes via the conceptual frameworks of different social sciences (cultural studies, anthropology, international relations, political science, international political economy with an emphasis on Latin America),
- demonstrate knowledge of the historical, political, cultural, linguistic and social image of Latin America,
- carry out comparative analyses in the field of Latin American studies which will contribute to the integration of the Latin American sociocultural space,
- use scholarly apparatus for the purposes of research, reflection, analysis and criticism of historical, political, cultural and social phenomena in Latin America, including a comparison of these phenomena,
- demonstrate knowledge of an insight into the functioning of market models, compare them with European and Slovene models and study, plan , develop and introduce those that are based on the principles of sustainable development and ethical trade.
Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).
Students may enrol in the second year when they have completed first-year course units totalling 54 credits, including successful completion of the chosen foreign language course unit.
Third-cycle doctoral study programmes (SQF level 10)
In order to complete the programme, students must complete all course units prescribed by the study programme.
