Admission requirements
  • A bachelor's degree from a first-cycle programme in the field of Italian language and literature or Italian translation, consisting of 240 credits, or from an equivalent study programme at a foreign university; or
  • a bachelor's degree from a study programme consisting of 180 credits in the field of Italian language and literature or Italian translation, or an equivalent programme at a foreign university, if prior to enrolment the candidate has completed course units essential for further study consisting of 60 credits; or
  • a bachelor's degree from another first-cycle study programme consisting of 180 credits or an equivalent programme at a foreign university, if prior to enrolment the candidate has completed additional course units covering linguistic skills and abilities in Italian for a total of 60 credits, where 36 credits are from specific contents of the first-cycle Italian language and literature programme and 24 credits are from a fourth-year module of the first-cycle Italian language and literature programme (to be chosen by the candidate); or
  • a bachelor's degree consisting of 240 credits in another field or an equivalent programme at a foreign university, if prior to enrolment the candidate has completed additional course units covering linguistic skills and abilities in Italian for a total of 60 credits, where 36 credits are from specific contents of the first-cycle Italian language and literature study programme; or
  • a bachelor's degree from an academic higher education programme adopted before 11 June 2004 in the field of Italian language and literature (or a relevant language programme), or an equivalent programme at a foreign university; or
  • a bachelor's degree from an academic higher education programme adopted before 11 June 2004 in another field or an equivalent programme at a foreign university, if prior to enrolment the candidate has completed the course units indicated in the third indent.

  • develop in-depth knowledge of specific linguistic and literary contents and combine these in modules that represent the deliberate acquisition of new knowledge,
  • autonomously use various types of sources for research in the fields of linguistics and literature,
  • address the theoretical and practical problems of the discipline,
  • work autonomously with the help of linguistic research and interpretive methods,
  • autonomously assess and evaluate results and contribute to the development of the discipline in individual fields of linguistics and literature,
  • autonomously present the results of research in the form of publications in international scholarly journals and specialist publications,
  • conduct further autonomous and team research and address various questions autonomously and in depth,
  • undertake professional work and interlingual mediation in a chosen specialist field,
  • provide cultural/intercultural mediation in various institutions,
  • provide intercultural mediation with highly developed communication skills in Italian.

Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).

There are no conditions for progression (the programme lasts one year).

Third-cycle doctoral study programmes (SQF level 10)

In order to complete the programme, students must complete all study requirements, for a total of 54 credits, and defend a final thesis (6 credits).
