  • A completed first-cycle study programme consisting of at least 180 credits in the field of natural sciences, mathematics, computer science, engineering sciences; or
  • a first-cycle study programme (180 credits) in another field and an approved enrolment application; or
  • a completed professional higher education programme under the Higher Education Act from 1994 to 2004 and an approved enrolment application; or
  • a completed first-cycle study programme totalling 240 credits in the same fields, for enrolment in the second year – 60 credits are recognised.

The qualification holder will be able to:

(general competences)

  • work autonomously on a project,
  • demonstrate familiarity with the properties of various materials,
  • demonstrate familiarity with work in research teams,

(subject-specific competences)

  • demonstrate mastery of the theoretical bases of solid-state physics,
  • demonstrate mastery of the theoretical bases of high-energy physics,
  • work in vacuum laboratories,
  • demonstrate familiarity with the functioning of colliders,
  • demonstrate familiarity with network cosmic ray detectors,
  • demonstrate mastery of processes on surfaces.

Examination performance is scored as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).

Students may progress to the next year if by the end of the academic year they have completed all course units prescribed by the study programme for progression to the next year.

Third-cycle doctoral study programmes (SQF level 10)

In order to complete the programme, students must accumulate 120 credits, which corresponds to passing all examinations, completing all course units in all subjects of the curriculum, and successfully defending a master's thesis.
