  • Diploma from a first-cycle study programme in the fields of: tourism, humanities and sociology or natural science, or
  • diploma from a first-cycle study programmes from other fields of study and completed differential examinations from subjects that are essential to continuing studies (basics of humanities, sociology, tourism or natural sciences) totalling a minimum of 10 credits and a maximum of 160 credits.

The qualification holder is qualified to:

  • apply scientific research methods to a broad range of problems in changing circumstances,
  • independently study to develop critical reflection, acquire social and communication skills, assess actual events, and to explain and evaluate social phenomena,

  • demonstrate knowledge of key economic-management topics from the tourism sector and in-depth topics from the field of cultural tourism,
  • demonstrate knowledge of key and certain in-depth topics from the heritage of Slovenia, the Mediterranean region and Europe,
  • master theoretic problems from the tourism profession and their resolution,
  • work independently with the help of research and interpretive methods from the tourism sector,
  • work independently with the help of managerial tools in the valuation, creation and marketing of tourism services with elements of cultural heritage,
  • conduct further independent and team research and immerse in various applied questions of cultural heritage tourism,
  • understanding the functioning of tourism systems in specific global social situations and the ability to analyse, synthesise and anticipate solutions and the consequences of events in the tourism sector,
  • perform action studies and applied research in the area of tourism events at the local, regional and international levels,
  • demonstrate knowledge of and understand the foundations of tourism, humanistic, sociological and business sciences in historical and specific social situations,
  • apply theoretical findings from the tourism sector in a specific environment, and link knowledge from various areas and apply it in the domestic and international business environments,
  • manage the communication process with the help of contemporary technologies and the use of the appropriate communication techniques between various factors in a situation of interdependence to determine the quality of tourism services in the local and international environments, and
  • understand the basic structure and interpretation of fundamental tourism disciplines and the links between the associated sub-disciplines.

Examination performance is scored as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10). 

Students may enrol in the second year if they have accumulated 54 of 60 required credits of a study programme. The missing 6 credits may not pertain to core subjects, but may pertain to subjects from the elective module. 

Third-cycle doctoral study programmes (SQF level 10)

All study requirements outlined in the program (120 credits) must be met for the completion of studies. When students meet all requirements from a study programme to obtain an educational qualification (102 accumulated credits with completed examinations and 18 credits for the writing of a master’s thesis), they complete their studies by orally presenting their master’s thesis.
