- pursue creative and independent scientific research work and solve scientific problems,
- analyse, synthesise and anticipate solutions and consequences in the field of social work and social policy,
- reflect upon and apply critical, international and comparative perspectives, both in the treatment and analysis of scientific texts and in conducting own research work,
- understand and critically assess solutions for demanding and complex scientific research questions,
- apply demanding research methods, procedures and processes,
- have in-depth theoretical knowledge in the fields of comparative methodology, theories of social work and comparative perspectives in the field of diversity studies in social work,

Examination performance is scored as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).
Students may enrol in a higher year if by the end of the academic year they have met all requirements defined by the study programme for enrolment in a higher year.
Students must meet all requirements defined by the study programme and produce and successfully defend a doctoral thesis to complete their studies.
