Admission requirements
  • A completed master’s degree from FKPV; or
  • a completed master of science degree from any of the economic or business higher education institutions in Slovenia or abroad (e.g. faculty of economics, faculty of management, faculty of economics and business, college of business and management and so forth); or
  • a completed master of science degree from any other (not economics or business) faculty in Slovenia or abroad; on enrolment such candidates will have 30 credits of course units recognised; or
  • a completed specialisation study following a previously completed Academic Bachelor Degree programme at any economics or business higher education institution in Slovenia or abroad; on enrolment such candidates will have 45 credits of course units recognised; or
  • a completed specialisation study following a previously completed Academic Bachelor Degree programme at any other (not economics or business) faculty in Slovenia or abroad; on enrolment such candidates will have 20 credits of course units recognised; or
  • a completed master’s degree (Bologna model) from any economics or business higher education institution in Slovenia or abroad; or
  • a completed master’s degree (Bologna model) from any other faculty or higher education school (not economics or business), if the programme has involved economics and business content in the amount of at least 45 credits; or
  • a completed Academic Bachelor Degree programme from any economics or business faculty in Slovenia or abroad evaluated in the amount of at least 240 credits, and in the admissions interview the candidate has demonstrated their suitability for scientific research work; or
  • a completed Academic Bachelor Degree programme from any other faculty (not economics or business) in Slovenia or abroad evaluated in the amount of at least 240 credits, and in the admissions interview the candidate has demonstrated their suitability for scientific research work; for such candidates the committee for scientific research work and doctoral studies sets differential examinations in economics subjects in the amount of 60 credits; or
  • a completed study programme (Bologna model) for specialisation at any economics and business faculty in Slovenia or abroad, and prior to this the candidate has completed a Professional Bachelor Degree programme; for such candidates the committee for scientific research work and doctoral studies sets differential requirements depending on the programme completed, in a maximum amount of 30 credits; or
  • a completed study programme (Bologna model) for specialisation at any other faculty in Slovenia or abroad, and prior to this the candidate has completed a Professional Bachelor Degree programme; for such candidates the committee for scientific research work and doctoral studies sets differential requirements based on a review of documentation and interview with the candidate, in a maximum amount of 60 credits; or
  • a completed study programme set out in the fourth paragraph of Article 36 of the Higher Education Act, if the programme is assessed at 300 credits.

Qualification holders are qualified to:
  • demonstrate advanced familiarity with modern macroeconomic theories and their influence on the success of the economy in general and of an individual organisation,
  • apply knowledge in solving problems in organisations,
  • think critically,
  • assess scientific results,
  • understand and/or perform complex analysis and interpret scientific and research achievements,
  • function in a domestic and international research group,
  • demonstrate familiarity with the strategy of publishing scientific findings,
  • use modern research methods, tools and procedures adapted to the research issue.

Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).

 

Course units from taught course units amounting to 26 credits from the first year must be completed for progression from the first to the second year. In order to progress to the third year, students must complete all course units from taught course units in the first year, and in the second year they must pass the subject Modern Methods of Statistical Analysis, another form of organised study signifying compulsory cooperation or a paper at a conference or publication of an article in a journal with international impact, and must have the approval of the FKPV Senate for the topic of their doctoral dissertation. Students must also complete all other requirements that have been set.

All requirements prescribed in the programme must be met and a doctoral dissertation successfully defended in public, yielding a total of 180 credits, for the completion of studies.
