  • autonomously apply theoretical and methodological knowledge to address the most complex problems,

  • plan and lead research projects from a broad research field in a national and international environment,
  • demonstrate competences tied to the identification, solution and presentation of research problems in the selected dissertation field,

GERMAN LANGUAGE STREAM
  • demonstrate in-depth knowledge and understanding of cultural semantics and the symbolics of phraseology,
  • demonstrate in-depth knowledge and understanding of theoretical, typological and methodological approaches in metalexicography and lexicographic practice,
  • demonstrate in-depth knowledge and understanding of the characteristics and rules of language corpora and corpus lexicography and the corpus-based acquisition and analysis of language data,
  • demonstrate in-depth knowledge and understanding of the theoretical and methodological aspects of cognitive stylistics,
  • demonstrate in-depth knowledge and understanding of the theoretical and methodological aspects of research into the social aspect of languages, above all the social aspect of modern German and situations of language contact,
  • demonstrate in-depth knowledge and understanding of the factors and rules of acquisition of natural languages,
GERMAN LITERATURE STREAM
  • demonstrate in-depth knowledge and understanding of the concept of transculturalism in literature, above all in the literature of German-speaking countries,
  • demonstrate in-depth knowledge and understanding of theoretical concepts and methodological approaches in research into cultural transfers, intercultural effects and the media presentation of literary texts,
  • demonstrate in-depth knowledge and understanding of the models and methods of contemporary literary theories that are useful in systemic and interdisciplinary research of literary works and literary systems.

Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).

In order to progress to the second year, students must have completed all course units prescribed by the study programme, for a total of 60 credits; in order to progress to the third year students must have completed all first-year course units (60 credits) and all second-year course units (60 credits).

In order to complete the programme, students must pass all examinations prescribed by the doctoral programme and prepare and successfully defend a doctoral dissertation.
