The qualification holder will be able to:
(general competences) 
  • undertake interdisciplinary work,
  • critically verify information and phenomena in local, international and global political, social, economic, historical and cultural contexts,
  • produce an autonomous written text (essay, newspaper article, specialist or general-interest article, report, paper, etc.) and prepare technical argumentation and an oral presentation,
  • demonstrate an overview of basic topics in the humanities,
  • know and make practical use of the methodology and methodological aids of other humanities,
  • show specific practical knowledge necessary for practical work in education and lifelong learning programmes,
  • demonstrate knowledge of the methodological approaches of education programmes and their practical application with regard to the specific needs of individual target groups,
  • further knowledge in specific fields,
  • take responsibility for professional development and learning by evaluating and reflecting on own work (experience learning, intervision, supervision),
  • demonstrate applied interdisciplinary knowledge for work in the field of the humanities and culture, such as distinguishes the education of high-ranking national and international personnel responsible for managing human resources, 
  • reflect on and evaluate existing educational practices and identify unexploited possibilities for raising their quality,
  • reflect on values within the discipline that are relevant to educational activities,
(subject-specific competences)
  • demonstrate knowledge of the key turning points in the history of the world, of Europe and of Slovenia (or Slovene ethnic territory), with a particular emphasis on the Mediterranean,
  • autonomously use material and historical sources for professional work and information and communication technologies and systems in the field of history,
  • autonomously use historical sources for applied work in the field of historiography (practical work in archives, libraries, editions of internet sources, etc.),
  • critically assess a historical source or historical event and on this basis produce an autonomous written text (article, report, paper etc.),
  • demonstrate mastery of the basic philosophy, dilemmas and perspectives of the discipline, and of methods of historical research and interpretation,
  • demonstrate familiarity with disciplines and fields of study related to history and use them in an interdisciplinary context,
  • understand, critically evaluate and address technical and practical issues in various fields of political, social and cultural contact in the space between tendencies towards political and economic globalisation and tendencies towards the conservation of social and cultural diversity.

Students' knowledge is assessed by means of practical exercises and seminar papers, and also via products, projects, performances, services, etc. and by examinations. Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).

Students may progress to the next year if by the end of the academic year they have completed all requirements defined by the study programme for progression to the next year.

Second-cycle master's study programmes (SQF level 8)

In order to complete the programme, students must complete all course units prescribed by the study programme.
