The qualification holder will be able to:
  • demonstrate analytical and synthetic thinking and critical and self-critical judgement,
  • demonstrate mastery of linguistic, social and intercultural skills for communication in a foreign language (German),
  • demonstrate a high level of information and media literacy,
  • make functional use of ICT,
  • critically evaluate and use sources and literature,
  • demonstrate subject-specific competences in the fields of linguistics, literary studies, literary theory and intercultural studies in the context of German-speaking countries.

Students' knowledge is assessed by means of practical exercises and seminar papers, and also via products, projects, performances, services, etc. and by examinations. Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).

In order to progress to the second year, students must have completed all course units prescribed by the study programme for compulsory subjects, amounting to 24 credits, and the number of credits envisaged by the other part of the chosen two-subject study programmes; in order to progress to the third year students must have completed all first-year course units prescribed by the study programme (i.e. 60 credits), and all course units from compulsory second-year subjects for a total of 24 credits.

Second-cycle master's study programmes (SQF level 8)

In order to complete the programme students must pass all examinations and complete all course units in all subjects prescribed by the programme in both parts of the two-subject study programme.
