Master craftsman level:
- run a vehicle painting workshop, represent the workshop externally, cooperate with professional chambers and the state administration, observe competitors and establish entrepreneurial cooperation;
- assume entrepreneurial and financial/economic functions, develop marketing strategy;
- operate a business rationally and economically (staff, standards and calculation of services), calculate consumption of materials, labour costs, time needed, etc.;
- prepare bids or estimates;
- manage the purchase and sale of products or services;
- prepare a business plan, analyse the results of work, prepare balance sheets, annual reports, etc.;
- implement substantive and enterprise planning, plan necessary investment, etc.;
- organise and regulate technical, commercial and human resources processes, ensure equal workloads for co-workers in the operation;
- employ and manage co-workers, induct them into the job, plan their development, etc.;
- establish a system of remuneration of co-workers and ensure a positive working atmosphere;
- ensure the quality of operations, products and services;
- implement environmental regulations (protection of the environment), regulations on occupational health and safety and fire safety, and technical regulations and instructions;
- keep abreast of new developments in the car painting field in Slovenia and abroad and undergo continuous professional training;
- transfer knowledge, skills, experience and new developments in the profession to co-workers and plan and implement practical training of apprentices and work placement students;
- take on vehicle painting jobs, advise customers about the scope and price of their order, on the choice of colours and shades, materials and necessary maintenance work and repairs on painted and rust-protected surfaces;
- carry out demanding and complex vehicle painting work to master craftsman standard;
- prepare putties, paints, lacquers, special automotive lacquers, etc. according to a formula or with regard to the desired shade;
- maintain, repair and produce anti-corrosion protection for the surfaces (including hollow parts) of frames, bodywork and conversions of motor vehicles and trailers;
- carry out additional treatment of a surface/equipment with inscriptions; apply decorative paintwork, multiple colours, etc.;
- identify causes, prevent and eliminate damage and defects on painted surfaces and assess the damage and defects on painted services by means of methodical examination;
- install and uninstall bodywork parts, automotive glass, parts of interior fittings and other assemblies of motor vehicles and carry out minor bodywork repairs;
- handle the machines, devices and tools used in their work and maintain them.
Members of examination boards for each examination unit separately. Appointed by the minister responsible for education. Appointment may be renewed every 4 years.
Candidates sit a master craftsman examination, which consists of four units:
- a practical unit,
- a technical and theoretical part,
- a business and economics part,
- an education part.
Candidates must pass all four units of the master craftsman examination to receive the title of master craftsman.
