Candidates may propose in their personal portfolio, as a test sample in connection with the practical assignment for verification, the type of weld (butt or angle), sheet or pipe, base material group, welding position and other details regarding the welding of the test sample, which the committee will then take into account when determining the practical assignment in the event that the candidate has to undergo verification.

Learning outcomes:

Candidates will be able to:

  • review documentation and prepare the workspace and necessary equipment, tools and material,
  • carry out welding work using the MIG/MAG method in accordance with the requirements of documentation or the welding procedure specification (WPS),
  • check the quality of their work using the basics of visual examination and dimensional control of welded joints,
  • maintain working equipment and personal protective equipment,
  • communicate with co-workers,
  • perform work in such a way as not to endanger themselves or the environment.

Evaluator:

Verification and assessment are carried out by committees for the verification and validation of national vocational qualifications, appointed by the National Examination Centre (NEC). Committee members must be licensed by the National Examination Centre. Licences may be found here.

Assesment and completion:

VALIDATION 

During the guidance process the candidate prepares a portfolio, which a committee then assesses, validating catalogue content in part or in  full. If the committee is unable to validate all contents of the catalogue,  it assigns tasks to the candidate for verification.  

VERIFICATION  

Candidates demonstrate their proficiency in semi-automatic arc welding of the  MIG/MAG type in accordance with the SIST  EN ISO 9606 standard (Qualification testing of welders – Fusion  welding) or equivalent. The welder chooses the type of weld in agreement with the committee (butt or angle on sheet or pipe, base material group, welding position and other details regarding execution that are covered by the standard used. Practical verification lasts a maximum of 150 minutes. Verification of theoretical knowledge is done in writing and/or orally and lasts a maximum of 30 minutes. It includes verification of familiarity with the process and method of work, materials and equipment, occupational safety and health, fire safety and quality in accordance with the occupational  standard for MIG/MAG welders.

Conditions for obtaining a public document:

Candidates demonstrate attainment of the knowledge, skills and competences defined in the catalogue of standards of vocational knowledge and skills.

Awarding body:

Providers of procedures for identifying and validating NVQs are entered in a register of providers maintained in the collection of the national information centre for vocational qualifications. These are: vocational schools, businesses, B2B training centres, adult education centres and chambers of commerce.
