- transfer and apply theoretical findings in the area of sociology into practice, and evaluate own practice,
- know and use relevant sources of information and knowledge,
- know, understand and apply scientific methods in the fields of educational and sociological sciences,
- communicate within the profession and with other professions domestically and internationally,
- provide technical criticism while showing responsibility and initiative,
- lead education projects and professional organisations,

- analyse and critically evaluate statistical data, carry out statistical analysis and apply knowledge in specific working fields,

- teach sociology/sociological content on the elementary and secondary levels of education,
- plan, implement and evaluate individual elements of the process of teaching sociology/sociological content,
- create the learning environment in which sociology/sociological content is taught and learned,
- develop teaching materials and simple teaching illustrations,
- adapt the syllabus to the specific education context and to the learning needs and abilities of students,
- perform counselling work associated with the teaching of sociology/sociological content,
- evaluate materials and aids used to teach sociology/sociological content,
- understand concepts of lifelong learning and be actively involved in implementing adult education and training at various ages,
- apply an analytical approach in recognising, monitoring and reflecting on social processes, dynamics and changes,
- resolve specific social problems by applying scientific and research approaches and methods through recognisable orientation to pedagogical fields,
- work with children and adolescents (know and understand psychosocial processes of growing up and capacity to respond),
- be open to initiatives in the social environment to include education work in the wider milieu,
- show interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary social science breadth of vision through a synthesis of various fields of knowledge,
- respond to salient social problems: social conflict, social exclusion, deviancy, criminality and poverty, demographic change, migration flows and so forth,
- effectively apply ICT for work in the educational, sociological and social science context,
- participate in the updating and development of school curricula, and be involved in research and development activities organised at the school, local, national and international level.
Examination performance is scored as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).
Students must meet requirements totalling 24 ECTS credits from the first year to progress to the second year.

Third-cycle doctoral study programmes (SQF level 10)
Students complete their studies when they have successfully met all prescribed requirements of a study programme and completed at least 120 ECTS credits, specifically 60 credits in the Sociology programme and 60 credits in the other field of the second-cycle two-subject study programme.
